Local Farmer Jim Kline to Recieve House Resolution from Rep. Kevin Mahan

STATEHOUSE---Representative Kevin Mahan (R-Hartford City) will honor local Farmer, Jim Kline on Wednesday May 25th. Rep. Mahan will present a Resolution from the Indiana House of Representatives at his Blackford County farm. Earlier this year Jim Kline was named "Top Producer" in North America by Top Producer magazine.

The award is given to the top 10 percent of farmers in the United States and Canada based on a variety of factors including production quality, gross production income, and business growth.

"This is a very distinguished award that Jim has recieved, and it should not go unnoticed," said Rep. Mahan. "Many people may not realize the magnitude of being named 'Top Producer,' but it is like the Super Bowl of farming.

During this year's legislative session the Indiana House of Representatives honored Jim's work and award by passing House Resolution 64. The resolution recognizes Jim as an outstanding farmer and an innovative businessman.

"I was overjoyed to have the opportunity to present the HR 64 on the floor of the House of Representatives, but it will be a greater joy to give the resolution to Jim at his farm," said Rep. Mahan.

Rep. Mahan will present HR 64 to Jim and his wife Lou at the Kline Family Farm Wednesday, May 25th at 11am. The presentation is open to the public. Kline Family Farms is located at 1532 N. 325 West in Hartford City.

Hartford City Farmer Named Nation’s Top Producer

Top ProducerIndiana farmer Jim Kline has been named North America’s 2011 Top Producer of the Year by Top Producer magazine, a national agribusiness publication. Kline is the sole proprietor of Kline Family Farms, a 7,500-acre farm located in Hartford City, Ind.

Top Producer magazine is targeted toward the top 10 percent of American and Canadian farmers in agricultural output and gross farm income.

"To be recognized in front of this caliber of people was the thrill of a lifetime,” Kline said. “I couldn't believe it. For me and my family, there is no greater honor.”

Presented with the award at the Top Producer seminar in Chicago, Kline was chosen out of 900 attendees after being named one of three finalists. Business progress, community leadership, entrepreneurial originality, and the use of technology were among the criteria used to select the winner.

“Our slogan is ‘innovative farming with integrity’,” Kline said. “We work very hard at staying up-to-date with all the latest in agricultural technology.”

Technological advancements on the farm, including no-till farming, strip tillage, and twin row corn, have allowed Kline’s operation to grow by more than 2,000 acres over the last 10 years.

Kline’s innovations were rewarded again earlier this month when he received the Partner in Progress Award, the highest honor given by Indiana Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman. The latest award for Kline recognized his outstanding service in the local community.

“The Kline Family Farm in Hartford City is very well-known in our community,” said Indiana State Representative Kevin Mahan, “so it’s great to see them receive such a monumental award. I’m glad I was able to have a part in the ceremony and congratulate Mr. Kline for all his hard work.”

A graduate of Blackford High School and Purdue University, Kline got his start in farming at the age of 15 when he rented land as a freshman in high school. By the time he was a high school senior, Kline had purchased his first farm.

Four full-time employees assist Kline in growing corn, soybeans and seed wheat. "I may have individually been recognized, but it's taken a lot of people for us to get into that position," Kline said. “We would like to add more acreage and we have the people in place to make that happen and to help our land owners reach their goals.”
